what's 'direct cremation'?

Updated: Nov 29, 2021

David Bowie famously specified that his should be a direct cremation, but what does that mean? Sometimes called a simple cremation, it just means that the person's body is taken for cremation without a ceremony at the crematorium chapel.

The benefit is that you can hold a service at a time and in a place that's not connected to the cremation itself. And that's what many families choose to do, giving themselves the freedom to gather at home, in a pub, village hall, office, field or wedding venue - a week, a month or even a year after the cremation has happened. Holding a more relaxed and completely unique celebration of the life of the person who has died.

If Covid meant that you missed out on the funeral you wanted, now is a good time. It's never too late to bring people together. To help them - and you - to come to terms with what has happened and to celebrate the life of the person who died.

If this sounds appealing, let's talk. With my help you can hold a really memorable and unique ceremony to remember the person who was so special to you.
